Without question, the finest moment in the history of my home county came in 1970, when a dead whale beached on the coast outside of Florence, Oregon and the geniuses in my state decided the best solution was to blow it up with cases of dynamite while people watched. It….did not go well.
The people of Florence have now created a city park to commemorate this illustrious moment.
