He pulled this off by routing the secret contract through a White House office that deals with minor repairs and building maintenance issues, and which is therefore exempt from government disclosure and competitive bidding requirements.
We of course don’t yet know anything about the copious kickbacks and skims involved, although the workers on Maggie’s farm are looking into this, hopefully anyway.
Even the facts already known would be a gigantic scandal in any previous administration other than Trump I: Joe Biden would have been impeached with plenty of Democratic votes to spare and this is not hyperbole. Yet this will be yet another nothingburger, for several related reasons.
First, the sheer volume of Trump scandals obscures the details of any particular grift. It’s impossible to keep up, it all starts blending together, and if scandals 1-666 didn’t move the needle why should we pay attention to this one?
Second, if you’re in the cult it’s all got to be fake news, because if you as a Good Christian ™ support what appears to be an indescribably comprehensive scumbag that would call your whole world view into question, which is why you studiously avoid critical thinking on every topic, especially this one.
Third, you’ve got your moronic nihilists who intone “all politicians are crooks and Trump is just honest about it.”
Fourth the Ariana Grande voters haven’t really heard about any of this except in the vaguest and most inaccurate terms, which is often just an extension of points one through three.
Fifth, the Bible.
I don’t believe there’s ever going to be anything like a reckoning for any of this, because when Trump is finally gone, are they going to say he was a wise man? That he was kind man? That he had plans, he had wisdom?
No: instead there will be a great forgetting, and no real rain is going to come, because Americans don’t have the stomach to face what this country has become.
