Excuse me, but there may be some sort of inaccuracy in this headline . . . I’m receiving an update now:

Financial Times reports that Donald Trump Jr.’s venture capital firm, 1789 Capital, has grown from roughly $200 million to $3.5 billion in assets over the last year, while pitching an “America First” investment strategy centered on “patriotic capitalism.” The Palm Beach-based firm says it aims to reach $10 billion in assets and has invested heavily in AI, defense, and tech companies including Databricks, Groq, xAI, SpaceX, and Anduril. One partner told the FT the firm hopes to become a new Carlyle Group-style powerhouse, using deep political connections in Trump’s Washington to build influence and attract capital.

Prettty sure Mike Johnson conveyed a prayer circle and Jesus spoke to them and said it was all OK, as long as he keeps getting 30% from the construction contracts at the Esplanade. I mean who better to manage your money than Donald Trump Jr., except for maybe Jared Kushner (you know how good those people are at that).

DamnYankeesLGM had a good comment about Jeff Bezos talking about how Donald Trump Sr. has changed:

“I think he is a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term,”

We are just living amid endless lies. Endless, endless lies. Evil people top to bottom.

Endless lies, endless crimes, endless corruption, all completely out in the open, except for the stuff which isn’t, which given what is I can’t even begin to imagine.

There are two relatively stark possibilities here for the formal post-Trump era:

(1) Assuming a Democrat gets into the White House two and a half years from now, it’s a pretty safe bet that this wild carnival of total evil will be “bracketed,” as the academics like to say, as a “special historical period,” as the de-Stalinization Soviets liked to say, that simply isn’t relevant let alone a precedent for anything going forward. Mistakes were made, but shirley you can’t be serious that we, the media, the courts, the Congress, the guardrails, should treat the Trump period as some sort of model.

(2) The Trump era creates a new baseline, and we’ll just be Mexico during the later decades of the PRI era, but considerably more sanctimonious about it because of American Exceptionalism ™.

Or

(3) Some sort of hybrid model, where sometimes it appears to be situation (1) and other times it’s situation (2). See if you can guess what will determine which it will be. I bet John Roberts and his equally shameless successors will be able to make some really fine jurisprudential distinctions is what I’m saying.

We’ll need a new Tacitus or two (good name for a New Order song).
