While Ross Douthat recycles some madman theory from Henry Kissinger’s crypt to try to justify his decision to support Trump in order to reduce chaos in foreign policy (!), prominent editors have decided to forego that kind of bank shot and just go with old fashioned sanewashing:

public perception says mainstream media is sensationalist, lusts for scandal, will make anything up to sell papers and get clicks etc., and then this particular president does like 10 scandals a day and mainstream media insists on describing his actions in the most uninteresting way possible

Saying that Trump has renounced the use of force to take Greenland is like saying that Tony Soprano has renounced the use of force to take over construction on the Newark Esplanade.

Oh, and if Joe Biden repeatedly confused Greenland with Iceland — which would not have been in a context when he was literally proposing to annex the former by force by musing that you have a very nice country there and it would be a real shame if something happened to it — it would be a five-alarm scandal that would dominate press coverage for weeks.

The president of the United States is so brain-dead that he doesn't remember which country he's threatening to destroy the world's greatest military alliance over.
