Insanewashing

Trump gave another demented old man rambling in a disturbingly random fashion at Davos today, where he said he won’t use force to take Greenland but he’s definitely taking it, which is kind of telling a woman he isn’t going to rape her but they are definitely having sex (I suspect this is not just an analogy in his case):

I read Ross Douthat so you don’t have to, and here he’s presenting the latest iteration in Reasonable Integralists With Some Serious Reservations About the Council of Trent sanewashing of Trump, which is something that could more accurately be called insanewashing. The basic thesis is that yes Trump is increasingly crazy and demented and out of control, but maybe that’s a good thing? This is like the Rand Corporation’s Greatest Hits in Deterrence Theory, which at least gave us Dr. Strangelove, although again I liked all those movies better when they were satires rather than documentaries.
