In a social media post on Sunday, Donald Trump has demanded homeless residents of Washington DC leave the country’s capital or face eviction, and again promised to use federal officers to jail criminals, even though violent crime in the city was at a 30-year low when he took office in January.

“The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Sunday morning, shortly after being driven from the White House to his golf club in Virginia. “We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital.”

The post was illustrated with four photographs, all apparently taken from the president’s motorcade along the route from the White House to his golf course. Two of the images showed a total of 10 tents pitched on the grass along a highway on-ramp just over a mile from the White House. The third image showed a single person sleeping on the steps of the American Institute of Pharmacy Building on Constitution Avenue. The fourth image showed the line of vehicles that whisk Trump to his golf course passing a small amount of roadside litter on the E Street Expressway, near the Kennedy Center.

Trump’s post promoted a previously announced news conference on Monday, which he has promised, “will, essentially, stop violent crime” in the capital district, without explaining how. In a subsequent post, he said that the news conference at 10am Monday, “will not only involve ending the Crime, Murder, and Death in our Nation’s Capital, but will also be about Cleanliness”.

Crime in DC is at a 30-year-low, and in the US as a whole it’s now at or near a 60-year low, but MAGA works on “alternative facts.”

Meanwhile, Trump’s well-documented personal obsession with germs and hygiene — which admittedly does not fit very neatly with his propensity for having unprotected sex with a porn star while his wife is home with newborn, but he is a man full of Whitmanesque contradictions — dovetails with the classic fascist obsession with social hygiene, and the need to purge the body politic of contamination.

Other parallels worth thinking about include the connections between, fascism, eugenics, and all those TikTok Moms obsessed with “eating clean” and keeping the carcinogens out of the sunscreen:

More Americans are questioning the safety of everyday products, driven by a growing distrust in conventional health advice, pharmaceutical companies and federal regulators. Among them are supporters of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Make America Healthy Again movement, who have helped revive skepticism of sunscreen ingredients such as oxybenzone and titanium dioxide. . . “I am definitely a MAHA mom and voted for Trump so that RFK Jr. could get into office,” said Summer Whiteside, 31, an ER nurse from Wildomar, California, in a text message. “After listening to his podcast on Joe Rogan, I knew he was the man for the job.”

On Instagram, Whiteside, who doesn’t shy away from the label “crunchy,” posts about things like beef tallow for sunburns and her preference for mineral sunscreen. Whiteside, who said she has concerns about the chemicals in sunscreen, uses long-sleeved rash guards on her kids and sunblock only on their faces.

Some wellness figures have claimed that diet changes or building sun exposure gradually can protect against burns, which dermatologists and the scientific community strongly recommend against. . .

Adam Friedman, a professor and chair of dermatology at George Washington University, said skepticism of sunscreen is nothing new. Concerns about chemical ingredients and mistrust in federal oversight resurface every few years, often fueled by social media and wellness trends. But he said the science has remained consistent.

Meanwhile in Florida:

Keely Farms Dairy has responded to health officials’ warnings about these issues in some individuals in Florida after consuming raw milk.

Seven people in Northeast and Central Florida have been hospitalized after drinking raw milk. The Florida Department of Health issued a statement about raw milk in these regions, raising concerns about sanitation at Keely Farms Dairy in New Smyrna Beach.

Since January 24, 2025, 21 illnesses have been linked to raw milk from Keely Farms Dairy, including seven hospitalizations and two severe cases. Keely Farms Dairy stated that it was not informed of any investigation by the Florida Department of Health prior to the press release.

Raw milk, unpasteurized and sometimes thought to taste better and provide allergy and asthma benefits, can contain dangerous bacteria. In Florida, it is only allowed to be sold as pet or animal food, with containers labeled accordingly.

The Department of Health is concerned about serious Campylobacter and STEC infections linked to Keely Farms Dairy. STEC can cause hemolytic uremic syndrome, which is especially dangerous to children and vulnerable groups.

How’s this checklist looking right now?

Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victim-hood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion

That’s from Robert Paxton’s 2004 study, The Anatomy of Fascism.
