Yet One More Platner Post

Shall I write yet one more piece about Graham Platner? Yes, yes, I shall!
During the whole Platner mess, I thought about writing many times, but succumbed only once. Rather than go into specifics, I stayed at the generalities of gender. But I’ll be more specific.
Part of the reason I didn’t write was that it’s tiresome to write again, one more time, about the ways some men feel it’s okay to abuse women. That’s all kinds of abuse – words or physical rape. It’s tiresome that men don’t seem to learn.
It also seemed that many people were pointing out that the working class includes a great many people who are not manly white men doing muscular things. The pollsters found a deficit for Democrats in the working class, and the bro pundits found a manly white man doing muscular things. Can we PLEASE stop doing this?
So I held back, as women do when these subjects come up.
I don’t know, this is all vibes, but it seems to me that the atmosphere around this sort of thing has improved since we first heard, nationally, of Platner? Absolutely no numbers here, but it seems to me that at that time, the fervor to find that manly white man avatar was at some sort of peak, and that now it’s easier for men to say that that’s not the way to go. Maybe Eric Swalwell made a difference.
Clearly I am talking about a leftish bubble here – a number of Republicans have scoffed at the Democratic weakness in failing to double down in support of a rapist candidate. But we’ve got to start somewhere. I’ll suggest reading my contribution from March 30 again. I think it holds up well.
