Immigrants Are Good, Actually
We see the attacks on immigrants. We see and hear Stephen Miller’s vile thoughts on them. There are also some very good economic and population studies available. But it occurred to me yesterday that we hardly ever see anyone just saying, from their personal experience, that immigrants are good, actually. So I did something about that.
One of the things we must do when we take back the government is to pass better immigration laws. My personal preference is to minimize the legal procedure and to naturalize all people who are in the middle of the current procedures. We can argue about that, but there must be changes, starting with eliminating ICE.
We can all help to make those changes more likely and more humane by saying, now, that immigration is good. That we need immigrants. That immigrants have contributed immeasurably to the country’s well-being in every aspect.
We need to drown out Miller’s visciousness and the administration’s lies. We can do it in conversations and on social media. Push your local Thai or Mexican restaurant – you know, the ones that don’t speak English well and have carryout only. Those are gutsy people.
I love the United Farm Workers Bluesky account and repost their posts. Every day, they profile a worker, probably an immigrant.
One more little thing we can all do to make things better.
