The non-cesspool parts of the Colorado Democratic Party strike back

As I’ve said before, Democratic leaders in Colorado are a good example of how the label “moderate” is not terribly useful. Both Jared Polis and Michael Bennet are in some sense “moderates.” But Bennet is a solidly-anti-Trump senator and an effective legislator, while Polis repeatedly plays footsie with Donald Trump, starting with celebrating RFK Jr. and culminating with collaborating with Trump in freeing a 1/6 collaborator. The former still gets it:

NEW: Sen Michael Bennet (D) says he will not appoint Gov Jared Polis to the Senate if Bennet is elected Governor. Bennet calls Polis' clemency for Tina Peters "disqualifying"— Kyle Clark (@kylec.bsky.social) 8:44 PM · May 18, 2026

Since Polis is term-limited, the best that can be done is to blackball him from any official role in the party that doesn’t involve cleaning restrooms going forward, and good for Bennet for being unequivocal about this.

…speaking of cesspools, I give you the Denver Post editorial board:

May we all find a friend as loyal as the Denver Post editorial board is to Governor Polis Backed Polis' Prop HH (voters defeated it by 20 pts) Backed Polis' Bridge to Nowhere (94% in Polis' own online poll opposed it) Backed Polis' clemency for Tina Peters (results TBD)

Again, the idea that the sentence given to Peters poses some kind of First Amendment issue is absurd. She was convicted for conduct, not speech, and it is perfectly legitimate to consider motives in sentencing even if evidence about motivations is found in speech acts.
