Inflation now at highest rate in three years

It’s true that Trump’s base votes for him because they love white supremacy and patriarchy above all things, but the complete moron swing voters who actually decide elections voted for him because he was going to use magic beans or perhaps crystals and Economics to bring prices back to where they were in 2019 or maybe 1999:

Inflation accelerated in May as rising energy costs contributed to pain for consumers, though underlying pressures were less intense.

The consumer price index, a broad gauge of goods and services costs across the U.S. economy, rose at a seasonally adjusted 0.5% for the month, putting the annual inflation rate at 4.2%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday. Both numbers were in line with the Dow Jones consensus.

Inflation climbed above 4% for the first time in three years, though the increase met expectations amid concerns over how much the surge in energy prices would impact the economy. The level was the highest since April 2023 and above the 3.8% level from April.

This is an area where the existence of the Strategic Moron Reserve should and probably will seriously undermine MAGA at the November polls, since it takes fantastic levels of economic illiteracy to think it’s desirable for nominal prices to deflate significantly. But in a country where 54% of adults read (or don’t) BELOW a sixth-grade level, that kind of thinking is hardly in short supply.
