The firings will continue until…well, frankly we don’t expect your morale to improve:

CBS News eliminated its century-old radio division, which broadcast Edward R. Murrow’s World War II dispatches from London, amid a round of layoffs on Friday announced by the network’s editor in chief, Bari Weiss.

More than 60 employees, or roughly 6 percent of the news division, are set to be laid off under the plan, according to a person who requested anonymity to share internal details.

“Certain parts of this newsroom need to get smaller in order for us to make room for the things that we need to build to remain competitive in the future,” Ms. Weiss, who started her job in October, said during a newsroom-wide conference call on Friday, according to a recording.

CBS News Radio, which has roots in the Jazz Age, was once among the premier news broadcasters in the country. “CBS News Radio served as the foundation for everything we have built since 1927,” Tom Cibrowski, the president of CBS News, wrote in a memo.

OK, but maybe things are going better on the TV side?

Tony Dokoupil was expected to revive CBS Evening News after stepping into the anchor role in January, but the program has now slipped under 4 million viewers for the first time since his arrival.

According to Variety, citing Nielsen figures, CBS Evening News averaged 3.83 million viewers for the week of March 9. This is the first time the show has dropped below 4 million since Dokoupil took over from Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson on January 5.

In the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic, CBS Evening News averaged 468,000, down from the previous week’s 507,000. The show was also down 15% in the key demo from the same quarter last year.

Compared to its rival evening news shows, ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 8.48 million total viewers and 1.03 demo viewers for the week of March 9. Meanwhile, NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas averaged 6.51 million total viewers and 946,000 in the key demo.

Perhaps running a broadcast news division is a somewhat different proposition than running a group blog, who can say? Of course, to the Ellisons if Trump is happy this is a worthwhile loss leader.
