LGM Film Club, Part 514: Promises: Through Congress
Promises: Through Congress is a 2021 film by Trevor Tweeden that is a simple concept. Let’s play the amazing Pharoah Sanders/Floating Points/London Symphony Orchestra album Promises while spending 40 minutes very, very slowly moving out from Julie Mehretu’s beautiful painting titled Congress. That it’s a slow film is obvious from the description. But here’s the thing–you can sit back and enjoy two pieces of astounding art, one audio and one visual, at the same time. It’s a striking experiment and one I enjoyed a good bit.
