LGM Film Club, Part 507: Thailand, 1953

I need to get back to the film club and one of these ridiculous travel documentaries from the 1950s is a great way to do it. The thing about this kind of film is that it combines some genuinely cool footage with extremely condescending and orientalist commentary. And this does both in spades. There’s some muy thai footage here, which might be the most interesting, even if these guys don’t look very good. And then there’s the combination of Thailand: Bastion of Democracy (eh…..), Thailand: Exotic Land of Old Timey Shit, and Thailand: Land of Hot Women.
