I told you all about my essay on alien sexuality in fiction appearing in the debut issue of a new feminist punk-rock magazine a few weeks ago. This is the second of my previews of this issue of VENUSzine, featuring some photography work by Behnaz Babazadeh entitled “Burkaphilia”.

You may have caught sight of this series in the news thanks to Behnaz’s Ted Talk.

The women are clothed in burkas made of candy as a way of changing the connotation of oppression. But it also strikes me clothing women in a candy can be a statement about cheap consumption of women’s bodies. Many layers of sweet and bitter to explore!

“Burkaphilia” appears in the Philautia chapter on self-love.

There are seven more chapters all about various forms of love, including Eros where my essay on queer alien sex in fiction is featured. Check out the list of the other contributors below!

Cop a physical manifestation of Venuszine (printed on recycled paper) for $15 or a digital pdf for $7!
