Assassination Attempts

One thing I have really struggled to get my head around is how memoryholed the assassination attempt on Trump was in 2024. I know people have speculations about it being a set-up and whatever. And I know people who have said these things who I never ever thought I would hear with a conspiracy theory, saying “I hate conspiracy theories, but….” and I don’t know, maybe they are right. But I will say this–I remember the days where an assassination attempt on a president was the biggest deal in the world. You can go to the Ford Library in Grand Rapids for example (and what better reason to go to the Paris of western Michigan) and Squeeky Fromme’s gun is on display and there is stuff on the Puerto Rican nationalists’ attempts to assassinate him too. Note: why would someone try to. kill Gerald Ford and boy was the 70s a weird time.

Anyway, I can name a lot of the people who have tried to assassinate presidents. And I can tell you quite a bit about them. I don’t even remember the name of the guy who shot Trump’s ear. This incident at the Correspondents’ Dinner (agreed with Paul here, the whole thing should be nuked)…are you even reading the news about it? I’m not. No one cared about the first one and no one is really going to care about this one. This seems….bad? Like, it seems like trying to assassinate a president is really bad for America, regardless of party. And we should care? But we don’t. The only real question I think anyone has is what is Trump doing to the Secret Service where the dude could just walk in like John Wilkes Booth.

We aren’t in a super place in this country, I guess that’s what I am saying.
