Creative news from yours truly: my essay on (accidentally) queer alien sex in big bucks science fiction media has been published in the debut issue of the new feminist punk rock art magazine VENUS.

The magazine is the project of a SOAS colleague of mine, Shamayel Shalizi, and her co-editor Emily Cartier. These are two ladies with bold visions of feminism and sexuality in a globalized context. They spell women with X!

“Venus is a zine for womx by womxn. Issue 1 explores a subject inspired by the goddess herself, expressions of ~love~, as defined by the ancient Greeks. The Hellenes’ deep interpretation of the human psyche transcends time and space. We ask ourselves, how are loving as feminine felines in this techni era? How do we express love in the post-internet digital culture? Where does love fit within the current movement of 4th wave feminism?”

My essay appears in the chapter on Eros, erotic love.

Here’s the list of the other fantastic contributors and more info on the zine’s editors. More previews of their amazing work to come!

Cop a physical manifestation (printed on recycled paper) for $15 or a digital pdf for $7. And maybe also hide from your kids until you’re ready to have The Talk.
