I Earnestly Advise Republicans To Pour Their Marginal Resources Into Pennsylvannia

[ 20 ] October 19, 2012 | Scott Lemieux

The wingnutosphere is very very excited about Mittens coming on in Pennsylvania, based on a single poll tailored to the specifications of a winger newspaper. And while it’s true that serious projections show Romney very close to drawing dead in Pennsylvania, Real Clear Politics shows the state as a toss up. Wow, who to believe? Well, you may want to consider that among the states RCP had leaning slightly towards Bush in 2000 were California, Illinois, and Maine. And, of course, Pennsylvania.

It must be said, however, that the corrupt skewed mainstream polls probably aren’t accounting for the fact that Romney will get 20% of the African-American vote.

    Mittens coming on Pennsylvania

Ew. I didn’t need to wake up to that.

Can’t wait to see him speaking from the back of a flatbed to adoring crowds in Tioga and Strawberry Mansion.

  3. mpowell says:

The wingnuts should be excited as this election is looking a lot closer today then it did two weeks ago. Romney looks like he has a real shot now. But of course they will overdo it.

  4. gorillagogo says:

It’s just semantics. RCP’s own polls show Obama up 5 points in PA yet they label that a toss-up. Meanwhile, Nate Silver gives Obama a 4.5 point lead and says that gives Obama a 90% chance of winning the state.

  5. John says:

I don’t get why anyone takes RCP seriously. They have a long track record of fluffing Republican chances.

Repubs are easily fooled, again and again. You know that!

Eh, their methodology is to basically just average the last couple polls. That’s not a perfect methodology, and there’s quite a few areas where bias can enter into even such a simple method, (and even setting aside bias it leads to very volatile predictions, which facilitates those who want to cherry pick) but it’s decent enough to be respectable.

I have no idea what they were smoking in 2000, but their predictions have been broadly in line with everyone else in the elections I’ve been paying attention to them in.

  6. witless chum says:

Michigan Republicans assure me that Romney’s going to win here, too.
