Before I read the full transcript of Geraldo Rivera’s comments on Trayvon Martin’s murder, I was shocked that someone on FOXNews had acknowledged the existence of white racism. Think of it! People on FOX were discussing racism instead of being racist. And the racism they were discussing wasn’t Obama’s war on whiteness or the Tea Party’s immaculate record on all things race-related, but it was the racism of overzealous white people who think that anyone in a hoodie is a threat to their person and property. Then I read the rest of the transcript, and it turns out that Rivera was just slut-shaming Martin and, oddly, his own son:

RIVERA: When you, when you see a kid walking —  when you see a kid walking down the street, particularly a dark skinned kid like my son Cruz, who I constantly yelled at when he was going out wearing a damn hoodie or those pants around his ankles.

I don’t think he thinks he’s slut-shaming, but he’s not that good at thinking so he’s not a competent judge of thoughts. To wit:

RIVERA: When you see a black or Latino youngster, particularly on the street, you walk to the other side of the street.

When Rivera sees a person who looks like him he walks to the other side of the street. I only wonder what happens when he walks between two shiny buildings and sees his reflections.
