Giving Away the Show

[ 12 ] February 26, 2012 |

This comment from Wendy Long, a lawyer who apparently the GOP might be using as cannon fodder against Kirsten Gillibrand this November, is very instructive:

If Roe v. Wade were overturned tomorrow, nobody would even notice, because the states are legislating their own laws about abortion, completely independent.

Well, if you’re a wealthy Manhattan attorney who is indifferent to anybody outside of his or her immediate social circles, you won’t notice. If you actually care about the rights of American women more broadly, you sure as hell will notice.

What a horrible liar she is.

I feel pretty confident that women in Mississippi who currently rely on its last remaining abortion clinic (or ones in Tennessee) would notice…

      • Anderson

I used to live next door to the only abortion doctor in Miss. (he drove over from Alabama). Never saw him around; I guess he found it prudent not to linger in his driveway. Good thinking. Salon had a good interview with him, which was how I even found out about him.

The GOP just captured the Miss. House this past election, so now they control the Legislature and are trying to figure out what to do with the car they’ve caught. Look for them to enact more laws that “no one will notice.”

To be fair, she’s not even trying to lie well. Her sole purpose is to avoid the embarrassment to the Republican party of leaving a blank line on the ballot. Winning any votes or embarrassing the Republicans in any other way is besides the point.

To be honest, I dont think its actually possible to embarass the current Republican party, their rank dishonesty and brass-faced lying is so endemic.

        • c u n d gulag

          They REVEL in dishonesty!

They will say, do, think, imagine, and propagate any lie, as long as it accomplishes the only thing that modern Conservatism stands for – which is:
To piss-off the Liberals as much as possible!”
‘To be adjusted daily, or, as often as necessary – prior positions, not withstanding – even if they were the ones they said they held dear just a few minutes ago!”

And so we sit – the Democrats and Liberals, caring about policy and the future, an ever adjustable tide, seeking some form of common ground, beating themselves silly against the Conservative steel dike of intransigence.

if you’re a wealthy ….. who is indifferent to anybody outside of his or her immediate social circles

That pretty much summarizes the Republican establishment. If you drop the wealthy part, it describes the base. “Republican” is the new euphamism for “sociopath.”

    • R Johnston

Nah. “Sociopath” is the new euphemism for “Republican.”

        LOL!

I even looked up the “in” or “en” issue to be sure, and missed the “ir” or “ri” question.

She’s going to have to do worse than that if she expects to carry on the legacy of Carl “send welfare mothers to prison so the hoses can wash the black off them*” Paladino

*not exactly what he said, but surely what he meant
