Breitbart proudly “breaks” broken news.

[ 31 ] October 17, 2011 | SEK

Item #1 (16 October 2011):

BREAKING NEWS!  MUST CREDIT BREITBART! MATT TAIBBI WRITES ON DOUBLE-SUPER-SECRET JOURNOLIST 2.0 LISTSERV THAT THE OWS PROTESTERS SHOULD IDENTIFY AND FOCUS ON A FEW SIMPLE DEMANDS!  MUST CREDIT BREITBART!

Item #2 (12 October 2011):

Matt Taibbi, in his Rolling Stone column, writes that “the time is rapidly approaching when the movement is going to have to offer concrete solutions to the problems posed by Wall Street. To do that, it will need a short but powerful list of demands. There are thousands one could make, but [he]‘d suggest focusing on five.”

The lesson?  The material on this list is so volatile it can only be published in a national magazine four days before Breitbart exposes it on the internet.

Now now, in fairness to Andy, his readership probably doesn’t read the news.

    Or RollingStone.com.

Or anything not typed in Comic Sans.

  2. Ralph Hitchens says:

Somebody’s idea of a joke? Is it April again, already?

  3. booferama says:

    Breitbart specializes in broken news.

  4. Warren Terra says:

Oh, hey: someone using “Must credit [me]” sincerely. I think it might have been ten years since I last saw that phrase used outside of a parody.

    • John says:

And it’s still been ten years, because, so far as I can tell, the “quote” from Breitbart in Item #1 is actually a parodic paraphrase by SEK, not an actual quote from the Breitbart article linked.

      • Warren Terra says:

Dammit, now I feel like the infamous “aware of all trends” dude. Although SEK didn’t say it was a shorter, and it was blockquoted.

        • elm says:

SEK fictionalizing stories that he tells without telling us he is doing so is also an internet tradition. But, yeah, I didn’t realize he had done it this time either.

          • SEK says:

Sadly, I don’t fictionalize my stories. Such is my life. That said, I thought it’d be obvious that my paraphrase of Breitbart was over the top, but I’m guessing I neglected to consider the full force of Breitbart’s typical rhetoric, and for that, I apologize.

            • actor212 says:

It was dangerously close to believable, SEK.

            • elm says:

Haven’t there been a number of occassions where you have written one of your dialogues, someone in comments has asked, “Wow, did person X really say that?” and you have responded that, no, you were paraphrasing or embellishing or something similar?

I recall that happening on more than one occassion, but I could be remembering wrong. If so, I retract my previous comment and apologize.

        • gaz says:

(repost, I put this in the wrong place below)

Both of you are evil. Because of your collective bashing on SEK I went and clicked the Item #1.

I was immediately assaulted with an avalanche of stupid. The stupid was so pungent and powerful that it could blister paint at 40 yards. My eyes are burning.

          Damn you both!

  5. c u n d gulag says:

    Andrew Breitbart:
    America’s Troll!

(With apologies to DenniZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, or Jung’nlimp, or whatever he calls himself today, who’s a rank amateur.)

  6. Here’s hoping Taibbi directs his weaponized prose at Breitbart.

Those of you with delicate constitutions might wish to look away.

    • Captain Splendid says:

He seems more tired than anything these days.

Don’t really blame him. He’s been basically right (and right-on) for over a decade now and the best he can do is 5 minutes on Maher’s show once in a while

  7. Another Kiwi says:

Taibbi’s book “Griftopia” is a great book for attempting to understand the Great Crash of Now. I think that the experience of writing that would tire one out, more than somewhat.

  8. DrDick says:

The only thing that Breitbart has ever broken, other than his word and every rule known to humanity, is wind.
