An Absolutely Crucial Point

Even leaving aside the fact that the substantive policy consequences are almost certain to be very bad, austerity in the face of appallingly high unemployment is a terrible, terrible, terrible idea.

And, while Politico reports do indeed have to be taken with a mountain of salt, I get the sinking feeling that many important people in the administration don’t understand that while improving economic conditions is the single most important thing you can do to ensure re-election, talking about improving the economy is worth shit.
