The case against allowing Brendan Sorsby to ever again play organized football at the collegiate level is so strong that there’s hardly any point in enunciating it. Ken Curry has handed Talarico an anchor that he should hang around Ken Paxton’s neck:

The office of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent a formal letter to the Big 12 Conference on Thursday on behalf of Texas Tech University, stating any sanctions imposed by the Big 12 against Texas Tech regarding quarterback Brendan Sorsby would be considered “unlawful” and met with legal action.

“Texas Tech is confident the Big 12 will choose to act within the confines of the law and respect both the judicial process and its own Rules and Bylaws,” the letter reads. “However, should the Big 12 seek to sanction Texas Tech for acting consistent with the (court) Order, Texas Tech will pursue all legal avenues to protect its interests and those of Texas Tech’s student-athletes.”

There are plenty of Texas Tech fans in Texas… but the fanbases of TCU, UT, and A&M are going to pissed if Sorsby sees the field in a Red Raider uniform this year. Add to this that it all smells of the same kind of low-grade corruption for which Ken Paxton is justly renowned, and it’s an issue that could pay off all the way to November.

That said… I suspect that Texas Tech is going to come under unbearable pressure to keep Sorsby away from the field, and that it will bow to that pressure sooner or later. Damn shame when bad things happen to assholes.
