Madeline Anderson’s 1960 film Integration Report No. 1 is a solid film reviewing that moment in the civil rights movement. Some of it is stuff you remember and some of it is very much the many actions that were big at the time but are totally forgotten today, such as Martin Luther King’s original gigantic DC rally over integrating the schools there. Anderson provides some really useful footage. The film is valuable in that way. But it’s also historic in another way, which is that it is evidently the first documentary film ever directed by a black woman. Also, Anderson is still alive at 103 years old, or at least her death has not been recorded. Only a brief clip is available on YouTube. Here it is:
