LGM Film Club, Part 515: A Camel

OK, OK, I know what you are saying–yet another Sudanese film! My God I am so sick of watching so much African cinema! Yes, well, it’s time to watch Ibrahim Shaddad’s 1981 film A Camel, which tells the story of a camel’s dreary life running a mill going endlessly in a circle and usually being beaten while doing it. It occasionally gets to go outside to eat and you see the other wildlife and various people. The amusing picture above takes what people are wearing and then putting those things on the camel, such as the hat and glasses here. It’s a 15 minute picture that is the kind of straight forward but profound film that happens when people who don’t always have access to cameras start to make their own films about their societies.
