I wouldn’t quite call Bryan McGrath a friend of the blog; he’s a friendly acquaintance that I used to blog with at Information Dissemination and who is now best described as a Never Trump Republican who is nevertheless more conservative on a number of issues that commenters here are typically comfortable with. However, as a retired professional naval officer his latest post on the Venezuela strikes may be worth your while.

The bottom line for me at this point is: with the information, training, and education I have at my disposal, I would have been unable to carry out these missions had I been assigned them, as I do not believe the orders to destroy these boats to be lawful. Had I been confronted with this dilemma, I would have resigned. It is my fervent hope that ADM Holsey did just this, and I hope that he has a chance to explain his action.

As I have provided above a thumbnail of both the arguments for and against these activities, I will concentrate moving forward on other arguments against, and I will warn readers in advance that they are not wholly detached from my utter disdain for and mistrust of this President. But—nor are they wholly derived therefrom.
