Go Away Bad Democrats

Amazingly, Kathy Hochul is the least stupid of the leading New York Democrats and came around to endorse Mamdani before Schumer, Jeffries, or Gillibrand. Pretty bad when your instincts are worse than Hochul! In any case, the leader of the New York Democratic Party is pissed about it and is threatening to resign. And the more you read….good! Go away!!!!

Following Hochul’s endorsement, state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie also endorsed Mamdani and state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins is holding an event Friday to publicly back him. Jacobs signaled Friday their opinions, as well as Jeffries’, will have a bearing on whether he remains in his post.

“If I were to hear from those people, particularly the governor, that they didn’t feel I was the right person, then I put my principles and integrity ahead of my title,” Jacobs said, referring to Hochul, Heastie, Stewart-Cousins and Jeffries. “I’ve got to do what I have to do. I cannot relent on that.”

Jacobs’ statement about leaving the decision up to the governor forces the ball into her court.

The party chair’s anger over her support of Mamdani came as a surprise to some party leaders, but Jacobs’ departure was not imminent as of Friday, according to a person familiar with the internal discussions and granted anonymity due to their sensitivity. Some party members want him to remain at the helm until at least after the mayoral election, the person said.

Cracks emerged between the governor and her top political lieutenant before Sunday. Hochul backed an aggressive push to disband a quasi-independent redistricting commission after Texas Republicans moved to redraw their state’s House lines, while Jacobs was initially reluctant to embrace the move.

Hochul’s endorsement of Mamdani highlighted his drive to combat the high cost of living in the deeply expensive city. The governor, a Buffalo Democrat, also asserted she disagrees with Mamdani over issues like Israel and policing. In his anti-endorsement of Mamdani, Jacobs cited his strong disagreements with Mamdani’s views on Israel and his rejection of the Democratic Socialists of America, of which Mamdani is a member.

Jacobs’ feuds with the left have been a recurring theme throughout his tenure. In a similar situation in 2021, he declined to endorse socialist India Walton after she won Buffalo’s Democratic mayoral primary. He compared Walton, a Black woman, to former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke. Progressives, who were also upset with the party’s lack of involvement in a series of election referenda, forced a vote of no confidence in his leadership. He survived that vote — but, unlike with Mamdani, Hochul had declined to endorse Walton.

Members of the party’s left-wing — including Mamdani — also called for Jacobs’ firing after the party underperformed in the 2022 midterms.

“It’s pretty presumptuous of Jay to declare himself the decision-maker of who aligns with Democratic Party values,” state party committeemember Erica Vladimer said. “Assemblymember Mamdani is running on wildly popular policies that clearly resonate with the Democratic base in New York City and nationally. Perhaps it’s Jay who doesn’t represent the principles, values, or policies of the Democratic Party, not our duly elected nominee.”

So this is just a rich guy with bad instincts but who can bring in a lot of money. What leadership that is!!!!
