David Ellison, the chief executive of the media company Skydance, has recently held early discussions about acquiring The Free Press, the online publication co-founded by Bari Weiss, according to two people with knowledge of the talks.
Ms. Weiss, who started The Free Press in 2021 with her wife, Nellie Bowles, and her sister, Suzy Weiss, has positioned the company as a brash alternative to traditional media organizations. Mr. Ellison is trying to close Skydance’s merger with Paramount, the parent company of CBS News.
The unofficial leader of the Free Press has already gotten his beak soaked by this merger, so why not?
Bari has pulled off one of the truly great media grifts of all time. Desperately tried to get fired from the Times so she could be a free speech martyr, failed, and then just quit for a vastly more lucrative “job” while still somehow maintaining the reputation as some kind of victim of the woke libs. And now she can really sell out big while complaining about how Trump supporters have no institutional power in America. Ben Shapiro is a piker.
The best way I know to summarize the quality of “journalism” at the Free Press is to note that the guy responsible for the reprehensibly dishonest “George Floyd had it coming” blog Bari published is now a staff writer with a podcast. If he does a follow-up story about how BLM was secretly funded by Jukt Micronics he can probably become editor-in-chief.
