A longtime associate of America’s most famous pedophile continues his focus on the material needs of the working class:
President Donald Trump called on the Washington Commanders to “immediately” change their name back to Redskins and said he might not make a deal with them if they do not, inserting himself into a debate that the franchise considers settled as it seeks to build a new stadium on federal land at the site of RFK Stadium.
Trump previously said he believes the franchise should not have abandoned the former name, a dictionary-defined slur against Native Americans that it dropped under corporate pressure in 2020. But the president had not directly insisted on a return of the name until Sunday, when he directed a demand at owners of both the Commanders and the Cleveland Guardians, who changed their name from Indians in 2021.
“The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, the social media network he owns. “There is a big clamoring for this. Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past. Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!”
The earliest Cleveland baseball franchise was not a founding member of the National League, the first major league, and the organization now known as the Guardians cycled through several names before it became the Indians in 1915.
Hours later, Trump threatened to block the Commanders from building a stadium at the RFK site if they do not change their name.
“My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way,” he wrote in another post. “I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. The Team would be much more valuable, and the Deal would be more exciting for everyone.”
Trump’s belief that he should be the Emperor of Washington D.C. is also highly instructive about the very mysterious question of his character and judgment.
