A senior administration official told NBC News on Wednesday that the U.S. is speaking with China on tariffs but at a low level that has not involved Cabinet officials.

China on Thursday directly contradicted President Donald Trump’s claims that Beijing and Washington are actively discussing resolutions to a trade war that threatens to upend the global economy.
While Trump said Wednesday that the world’s two largest economies are “actively” talking, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson responded that “China and the U.S. have not engaged in any consultations or negotiations regarding tariffs, let alone reached an agreement.”
The spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, made the comments at a briefing in Beijing, saying that reports of ongoing talks were false. He added that while China is open to negotiations, “if it’s a fight, we will fight to the end.”
The meister dealmaker’s shtick doesn’t work so good when other parties decline to play along. And obviously this goes beyond another country issuing a blunt “Nuh-uh” to a U.S. president. It again reminds every other nation that if they expect him to deal in good faith they’re bigger fuckwits than he is.
Wait. Someone has handed me a note explaining that he really wanted China to call him out for lying as part of a cunning plan so cunning you could brush your – Wait again! I’ve been handed another note with the word “KOMPROMAT” written on it and a crude drawing of an evil egg torturing a tribble? Sorry, a third note explains that the drawing in the second note is Putin working Dump like a puppet.
