Alex Ovechkin has broken Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goal record:

Ovechkin also did it in the same number of games, which given how much less scoring their was during his era is particularly remarkable.

One cool thing is that after last year it looked like if he broke Gretzky’s record he would do it a la Pete Rose, putting up some empty calorie goals for a declining team while hanging on forever. Instead, he’s having a very good offensive season for the team with the best record in the Eastern Conference. Good for him.

And, yeah, he’s buddies with Putin. At worst, that’s a wash, as Gretzky isn’t just a “votes Republican because he’s a rich white guy” type but hardcore MAGA:
