Not having anything better to do and seeking a respite from election news, I decided to have some foot surgery yesterday. It was outpatient surgery, and everything went well. I have a network of friends who are looking after me. This morning I’m better than expected, although still a little addled from the anaesthetic.
If I didn’t have that network, though, I would have to be paying thousands of dollars for rides to the doctor’s office and other help. Kamala Harris’s proposal for homecare as a part of Medicare would take care of that. Those who don’t have that network or a spare few thousand dollars would have to put up with their foot becoming further deformed. My problem wasn’t life-threatening, but it was beginning to hurt.
Adding to that, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has proposed eliminating the ACA, and economic guru Elon Musk would eliminate Medicare, although he has not been as candid about that as Johnson was about eliminating the CHIPS act too, which is already developing an industry competitive with Taiwan’s.
Oh, and the Biden-Harris administration capped drug costs for Medicare users at $2000/year.
It’s our choice!
