Keep chuckin’ those facts!
The early returns on the new Murdoch-adjacent Washington Post leadership are in, and are not encouraging:
this isn’t fact-checking—it’s carrying water. and it’s precisely what i expected would happen to @washingtonpost’s coverage under its new publisher Will Lewis – former Murdoch ceo/executive & Boris Johnson advisor during Partygate (who later received a knighthood from the PM) https://t.co/fUS8cgo9wX— Erin Overbey (@erinoverbey) August 20, 2024
Even by the debased standards of Fact Checking, Inc., this is profoundly embarrassing stuff. “Not all of the praise that Donald Trump has heaped on dictators came in the literal form of letters!” “Trump rambles incoherently and contradicts himself, so quoting his literal words in the context of his actions in office and his party’s platform is ten pinocchios!” Come on. Then there’s this:
They have to feel balanced because of the firehose of lies at the RNC so they do this gaslighting bs pic.twitter.com/yweBxL23E4— Alejandra Caraballo (@Esqueer_) August 20, 2024
The logic is tortured on its own terms, before we get to the fact that we’re supposed to ignore that he actually fomented a violent attempt to overthrow the results of the election the last time he lost! The level of intelligence-insulting going on here is remarkable.
“Fact checkers” suddenly all in on using pedantry, fallacious logic, and outright misinformation to provide Trump cover from accurate Democratic attacks. pic.twitter.com/5G3f6EuOcg— Brian Beutler (@brianbeutler) August 20, 2024
In related news, MoDo has compelled Trump to new achievements in the field of “I know you are but what am I?”
During DNC, Trump keeps pushing false ‘coup’ claim. "That was a coup. It was a vicious, violent overthrow of a president of the United States,” he said today at a sheriff’s office in Michigan, with uniformed deputies standing behind him. https://t.co/iZlcyy5kwP by me for @latimes— Hailey Branson-Potts (@haileybranson) August 20, 2024
Sorry, but Joe’s not coming back no matter how badly you want it.
