I haven’t written much about the Starbucks unionization effort because I’ve just been watching, waiting until I have something useful to say about it. It’s quite remarkable and incredibly refreshing. It’s a very, very good thing. I will say that I look upon this WaPo profile of the organizer of the Buffalo union with mixed feelings, largely because I’m not sure that turning a Rhodes Scholar who was working at the Starbucks into a hero of then modern labor movement is a real useful strategy at this point in time when no contracts have been signed or permanent change accomplished. But in terms of how a union movement can inspire people and convince the reluctant to take action, this is a good play by play and worth reading.
