I had meant to write about the revolting actions of the owners of the Politics and Prose bookstore chain in DC, hiring the infamous Jones Day law firm to lead a unionbusting campaign against their own workers who do want a union. Jones Day is an infamous unionbusting firm when not busy representing Trump is his coup attempt. Politics and Prose of course is famous for being a progressive stalwart in DC. They have great speakers all the time. They even had me once when i was giving talks on Out of Sight, which is probably not a point in their favor, but hey, whatever. In any case, it does not surprise me when any employer becomes a right-wing extremist when it comes to union. From Ben and Jerry’s to Ralph Nader to Jacobin columnists saying that Bernie’s campaign workers shouldn’t unionize because they need to sacrifice for the cause, there’s a long history of principles about justice being thrown out the window when it affects how you see power works, i.e., you want it.

Well, the outrage that the news about Jones Day created led to the owners caving completely and recognizing the union, realizing that their entire business model was about to crumble due to their own greed for power over their employees. Good for everyone involved in forcing the issue.
