Elissa Slotkin is one of if not the most conservative members of the Democratic caucus in the Senate (she was elected to represent Michigan last November). This reflects among other things that she is deeply embedded in the national security apparatus, having spent many years in the CIA, and working in both Democratic and Republican administrations. In other words, she’s the kind of person who would have made David Broder’s heart go pitter-patter. It’s worth noting that she just laid out in the most straightforward terms in a public speech exactly how and why Donald Trump is a violent lawless authoritarian, who has no intention of giving up power. That a U.S. senator is saying this seems like a news story.
