Why are political reporters acting as the PR team for Chris Christie’s new “book”?

We’ve already seen Christie morph from “Ostensibly Serious Anti-Trump Republican” to “Particularly Obsequious Trump Lickspittle In Vain” once. He would be advocating making Trump dictator for life if he thought it meant increasing his book sales 10% and didn’t jeopardize a potential WFAN gig. He has zero chance of ever being the Republican nominee whether Trump runs or not. But there always has to be a This Is A Good Republican out there, and Christie is thirsty enough to fill the role.
