Why we can’t have nice things
A substantial faction of the country, mostly overlapping with the Republican Party, are some of the whiniest pissbabies in the world:

Being compensated for acting in the interests of the company and the public would set a “dangerous precedent” OK.
To way too many Americans, freedom’s just another word for “I should be able to do whatever I want irrespective of how it affects others and not face consequences in any way.”
