Here’s a postmodern hermeneutic puzzler for you:

Ted Cruz very badly wants to be president of the United States. Flying to Cancun in the middle of a catastrophe during which the people who you represent as a United States senator are freezing and starving would seem to be something that somebody who very badly wants to be president would not do, prudentially speaking.

Possible explanations:

(1) This story is false. This is possible, I suppose: The failure of Cruz’s office to respond to it could just possibly be some sort of gotcha play to show once again just how biased the Mainstream Media is toward God-fearing semi-white Republican men.

(2) Cruz has terrible political instincts because he’s a sociopath.

(3) Most intriguingly, he’s doing this — if he is doing it — because he’s consciously asking himself, what would Donald Trump do in this situation? In other words, what Cruz may have taken away from the last five years is that the way to win the Republican nomination is to troll the libs by being a heartless sociopath, which to be fair is probably not a role that’s a particularly difficult stretch for him. So this could be a kind of convergence of political method acting and Ted Cruz’s natural instinct to be a huge fucking asshole all the time anyway.
