A most Christmas outflankening
Donald Trump got a lot of praise from the usual anti-anti-Trump circles for nominally coming out in favor of $2,000 checks while threatening to veto the relief package. While it’s nice that he’s now made clear that it’s congressional Republicans who oppose more generous aid, because Republicans in fact oppose more generous aid Trump’s last-minute interjections will not get anyone more money. His refusal to sign the bill, however, will have actual material consequences:
One of the consequences of Trump refusing to sign the coronavirus aid package — no $25 billion in emergency aid for renters, no month-long extension to the federal moratorium on evictions. https://t.co/lcisxV2Dh4— Seung Min Kim (@seungminkim) December 24, 2020
And if Trump pocket vetoes the bill, which he very well might, it might be possible to reassemble the bill in the next Congress, and it might not. Feel the populism, while the same rubes who fell for his transparent bullshit one more once fall further in love with store brand Trump Josh Hawley.
