If you regularly use car services like Juno, Lyft, Via or Uber and you’ve been thinking “I feel ever so guilty about using a service that exploits workers, but what can I do to help?” today is your lucky day. You can help by finding another way to get around today.

Drivers in 10 cities across the country are taking action on Wednesday to draw attention to what they say are decreasing wages for drivers and a distressing lack of job security — and some are calling on passengers to temporarily boycott the ride-hailing services, too.

Among the drivers’ demands in Los Angeles are a 10% cap on commissions taken by Uber and Lyft, hourly minimum pay and fare breakdowns on passenger receipts that show the companies’ take. New York drivers are demanding an end to sudden account deactivations and the right to appeal through the courts.

The strike was spearheaded by Rideshare Drivers United, a Los Angeles-based association of drivers. And the group is asking for the support of would-be passengers.

In addition to NYC and L.A., drivers in Chicago, Washington, Boston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco and Stamford, Conn will participate in strikes and rallies. If you’re on Twitter use or follow #StrikeUberLyft and #AppsOffMay8.

The strike comes ahead of Uber’s initial public offering. The company’s valuation could be as high as $91 billion, NPR reports.

Update: The post title is from the Absolutely Fabulous episode Death, but it seems to be confusing some people. To be clear: Using any other form of transportation that doesn’t rely on a lack of regulation and worker exploitation, or skipping any trips that require a car, would be a good way to support this one-day worker action

Also, my work commute includes a walk, a train run by one system and a bus run by another. Sometimes I take a second train run by a completely different system. So I’m always interested to hear what sort of public transportation options people have in their neck of the woods, even if they don’t use them.
