Act I: the Paper of Record literally collaborates with Steve Bannon on a bullshit story falsely insinuating that Hillary Clinton was corrupt, playing a major role in setting a tone of coverage that convinced a majority of the public that Hillary Clinton was the least honest candidate in a contest with Donald J. Trump.
Act II: In 2017, Times reporters are still citing this Judy Miller-level fail to appease conservatives by noting that they were tough on Hillary Clinton.
Act III: Quietly buried in a (very good!) story about Trump’s various efforts to obstruct justice:
House Republicans opened investigations into the F.B.I.’s handling of the Clinton email case and a debunked Obama-era uranium deal indirectly linked to Mrs. Clinton.
And…in a few months there will be frontrunners for the Democratic primary and the whole cycle can start up again.
