I mostly ignored the Superb Owl this weekend, but I did manage to catch some of the commercial breaks. One ad that stood out was the Volkswagon spot, which featured engineers sprouting wings whenever a VW would roll over to the 100,000 mile mark. A lot of engineers got their wings during this 45-second spot. None of them were women. It was glaring. Hell, I noticed it and I was barely paying attention to anything Superb Owl-related. There were even two dick jokes included in the spot. Eszter Hargittai has more.
