Democracy’s Fragility

This story on a few racist teenagers creating havoc at Texas universities by spreading white supremacist propaganda reminds me of a point I have known for a long time: that democracy is incredibly fragile and it only takes a very small amount of people to destroy it. When those people are aided and abetted by those in power, it makes it even easier. Some of these schools have publicized the names and addresses of suspects, others are protecting. Texas attorney general lieutenant governor and complete wingnut Trumper Dan Patrick is going to hold public hearings on “freedom of speech on campus” which dollars to donuts is going to find that colleges are limiting the ability to Nazis to speak. Of course, this is just one of many examples of this sort of extremism undermining our national traditions that we could cite.

How this ends well for our nation, I do not know.
