Oh great:

The Trump administration wants to revamp and rename a U.S. government program designed to counter all violent ideologies so that it focuses solely on Islamist extremism, five people briefed on the matter told Reuters.

The program, “Countering Violent Extremism,” or CVE, would be changed to “Countering Islamic Extremism” or “Countering Radical Islamic Extremism,” the sources said, and would no longer target groups such as white supremacists who have also carried out bombings and shootings in the United States.

Such a change would reflect Trump’s election campaign rhetoric and criticism of former President Barack Obama for being weak in the fight against Islamic State and for refusing to use the phrase “radical Islam” in describing it. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for attacks on civilians in several countries.

In retrospect, one could argue that Trump calling for innocent African-Americans to be lynched was even more important that Hillary Clinton’s email server management.

If worse comes to worst, then everyone in the Village responsible for pushing EMAILS chickenfucking deserves to be mauled for treason.

Yes but…but…Dylan Roof and Alexandre Bissonnette’s email practices were absolutely sterling.

The whole thing reads like the inbred loathechild of “Remember the Maine” and Radio Rwanda.

Trampled by ponies. In the absence of unicorns, of course…

That said, the rank incompetence of Donald's administration is excellent news for the totally-going-to-happen Clinton 2020 campaign.

Chelsea will be 40. Works for me.

            • ΧΤΠΔ

Assuming we survive till 2020, the Clinton campaign (either Chelsea or HRC) will consist entirely of 200% deserved gloating about “EMAILS AMIRITE”.

What animal should email pushers be mauled by?

Spams. Spam is meat, so they must make it by butchering spams, right?

    • Personally, I’m sick of having to live this never-ending, millennia-long death battle between Christianity and Islam. Just kill each other and be done with it.

  • MAJeff

Surrendering to the Klansmen and Nazis.

    • Hey, they took over the Republican Party fair and square…

    • McAllen

Not sure it’s so much a surrender as it is switching sides.

      • DrDick

Not even that, just bringing it out in the open. The GOP has been actively recruiting the Klan since Nixon.

The Cossacks work for the czar.

  • Mark Field

I’m not sure this is even in the top 3 of awful things he did today: threatened Iran; threatened Mexico; berated the Australian (!) PM.

    • In other news, Trump’s guys with guns are now outright ignoring the Judiciary’s guys with guns:

Immigration attorneys in Southern California have told The Electronic Intifada that the US Marshals Service is failing to enforce federal court orders against the Customs and Border Protection agency at LAX, Los Angeles International Airport.

The development comes after several days of reports that Customs and Border Protection has been violating nationwide court orders suspending key provisions of US President Donald Trump’s executive order, which many are calling a Muslim ban.

This represents a potential breakdown in the division of powers: the US Marshals Service, according to the Judiciary Act of 1789, is obligated to serve as the enforcement arm of the federal courts.

      • Davis X. Machina

        Working towards the Führer.

When all this is over, LA is going to need a Gauleiter. Who better than a zealous member of the CPB?

        • nasser

We’ll also need someone to head the People’s Court. Any candidates?

          • Breadbaker

Trump’s sister is a (well-respected by all accounts) federal judge.

            • rea

I’d much rather have her on the S Ct than Gorsuch.

      • Vance Maverick

Who’s covering this story? The only “mainstream” link I could find offhand was an individual blog at Forbes.

        • Vance Maverick

OK, also the Guardian. (Plus other more frankly partisan outlets like HuffPo.) So it’s not being swallowed up entirely.

      • rhino

Considering that the lame stream media have been pretty quick to jump on the Rapey Orange Shitgibbon’s face for the last ten days, I find it hard to believe that this is actually happening, because CNN would fucking love this.

I think we might have some fake news here.

      • Lurking Canadian

Surely, if that comes to a head, the public won’t side with Trump, right? We can’t possibly be so far through the looking glass yet that United States Marshalls could be plausibly cast as the bad guys. Right?

        • BiloSagdiyev

To The 28% that Hold America Hostage, they could just immediately be renamed “the liberal Federal Marshall’s service” and castigated for their lack of loyalty to Murka and Cheeto Jesus.

If Ilaraio Pantaro was being persecuted by the liberal USMC lawyers of the Pentagon (huh?), any idea is possible for some of these folks.

      • wengler

Oathkeepers. The Constitution clearly says the white fascist leader shall rule.

    • Warren Terra

We heard about those things today, but he threatened to invade Mexico unless they cleaned up their “bad hombres” on Friday, and he lectured the Aussie PM about his electoral college victory before moaning about the US’s refugee resettlement commitments and then hanging up on him halfway through the scheduled call on Saturday.

So, not today at all. Though threatening Iran, that was today.

Bonus fact about the call with the antipodean prime minister:

Trump made the call to Turnbull about 5 p.m. Saturday from his desk in the Oval Office, where he was joined by chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon, national security adviser Michael Flynn and White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

I suppose we should blame the Sabbath for Kushner’s absence, but that is an absurd and revealing list of participants.

      • N__B

Something that might explain – obviously not excuse – the workings of that inner circle is Trump’s business experience. His real business, the one he shows up at every day in Trump Tower, has maybe 30 or 40 employees. He’s never in his life been part of a large organization and would be dumbfounded if someone asked him to explain an org chart.

        • JMP

He’s also used to an organization in which employees are supposed to obey the boss’ orders without question, which is not at all how government works; it’s one of the many reasons why “we should run government like a business!” is such a monumentally stupid idea.

          • N__B

I mentioned a while back that I had some professional dealings with the Trump Organization several years ago. Everyone I dealt with was constantly crapping his pants about what The Boss would think of any decision they made.

            • Mike G

Companies and organizations led by narcissists are failure-prone, with low employee morale and propensity toward unethical practices.

              • GeorgeBurnsWasRight

                I’d also expect poor decision-making.

            • BiloSagdiyev

So who will be Trump’s Fegelein?

      • DamnYankees

When you read stuff like that, it just hits home that there are no sane people in the room. It’s not like Trump is saying crazy shit while experienced diplomats are standing around who know how insane it is and will try to clean up the damage or say “actually Mr. President, the situation is X.”

Everyone around the table is batshit crazy. There’s no safety net.

As scared as people are right now, I don’t think they are remotely scared enough.

        • wengler

Just remember that President Bannon decided to ban travelers in entirety from seven countries, two of which we are currently allied with in military conflicts. And he did so without any immediate cause.

Let that sink in a minute.

Now imagine what will happen 2 months/2 weeks/2 days/2 minutes from now when there is a terrorist attack against western interests or almost certainly against Trump interests in the Middle East.

We need a plan to oust Bannon/Trump before it’s too late.

    • DamnYankees

At this point foreign leaders should just record their calls with Trump so they can release them if necessary.

  • j_doc

Only slightly OT, but what’s the deal with more and more Russians getting arrested for treason for being US agents? And what happens if CIA or NSA firmly connect some dots?

    • Dennis Orphen

I have a theory on that. It doesn’t matter if anyone arrested are our assets or not. It just has to LOOK like someone in the administration leaked their identities. What a chilling effect that will have on our current assets in Russia’s sphere of influence and our ability to recruit more in the future. This effect also applies to all our allies.

Didn’t the next Dylan Roof already strike in Quebec?

The program, “Countering Violent Extremism,” or CVE, would be changed to “Countering Islamic Extremism” or “Countering Radical Islamic Extremism,”

It’s really a shame they didn’t think to call it “Craven Radical Islamist Muslim Extremism” or something of the sort, so they could fight CRIME.

As I lie in bed writing this comment, I am under 20 feet from where a famous White terrorist lived.

I think I can narrow it down — you’re somewhere in the United States, right? Am I getting warm?

  • nasser

Don’t forget Trump’s plan to honor Black History Month by ending gang violence in Chicago!

“…Pastor Darrell Scott, announced a plan to have a “sitdown” with “some of the top gang thugs in Chicago” to address the epidemic of violence that has plagued that city.”

“The only reason they’re sitting down with me is because they associate me with President Trump. Now let me say this: I misspoke somewhat when I said gang thugs. Let’s say former gang thugs, former gang thugs, but these gentlemen still have their hands on the pulse of the street,” Scott explained.”

  • Gee Suss

Given how focusing on white supremacy has failed, I guess they’re going to fail against “Islamic Terrorism (Extreem Edition!)”.

  • efgoldman

Need only one more Republiklown vote to deep six DeVos.
    This might help.

    • Looks like Jeff Flake just gets stars in his eyes for anyone who says “school choice.” Also looks like this isn’t exactly popular among his constituents. Like, about 99–1 opposed to DeVos in the comments from a brief look through them. Several mention that they can’t get through on the phone and that his voice mail is full.

  • Breadbaker

So by doing this, Trump personally owns every killing by white right-wing Christians. They’ve just been told they won’t be under surveillance. That’s the equivalent to telling Saddam Hussein we won’t support Kuwait if he invades.

Our job is to make sure voters hear that loud and clear.

    • Hells Littlest Angel

And the voters’ job is to understand that that’s a bad thing. Hmm …

      • rhino

Some of those victims are going to be white people. Even republicans will care about those ones.

    • rhino

I own a rifle for two reasons. Killing animals I can eat, and killing nuisance vermin. Got it covered.

I really hope things don’t get this far, I am too old for this shit.

But even here in Canada, I am pretty sure its getting much worse before it gets better, and trying to plan accordingly.

  • DrDick

This is hardly surprising, since if the government targeted the actual terrorist threats to the US, they would be locking up all of Trump’s supporters.

  • Joseph Slater

Not at all surprisingly, San Antonio Spurs head coach Greg Popovich was infinitely better on Black History month than Trump. And I say that as a Detroit Pistons fan who still isn’t quite over the 2005 NBA finals.
