Speaking of taking care of each other, Rebecca Solnit’s _A Paradise Built in Hell_ is a good read about the community that breaks out in disasters. It’s almost as if capitalist competition is quite fragile and requires big government to keep it going.
It’s NOT a “glibertarian FEMA is oppressing me” screed, though.
Nor is it a glibertarian “FEMA is oppressing me” screed.
My area also came through mostly OK, a bit of rain, a bit of wind, a bit of tons of twisted metal ready to come down on your head.
As a f/u this AM, crane still dangling, throngs of tourists pointing.
