Kausmentum Part XVII

[ 7 ] June 6, 2010 | Robert Farley

It’s hard for me to view the Kaus Senate bid with anything but amusement, but he’s obviously trying very hard to irritate as many people as he can…

  1. I understand his most passionate supporters are Capricorns.

  2. Pinko Punko says:

No, he is most passionate ABOUT his Capricorn supporters.

  3. Erik Loomis says:

    “Go back to your goats.”

What else is there to say?

Kaus has already won the all-important NYT primary!

“THIS is the throbbing heart of the Kaus for Senate campaign,” says Mickey Kaus, throwing open the door to his two-bedroom apartment in the Venice neighborhood here. Inside, there are no campaign posters to be seen, no army of clean-scrubbed interns, no banks of phones or red-white-and-blue bunting or stacks of voter registration forms. Instead, there’s just Ikea furniture buried under a flurry of political tomes, magazines, printouts, cellphone manuals, and two-year-old Christmas card photos starring his friends’ children. A red laptop balances on a stool. A small TV sits on a table. In the kitchen, spilled coffee grounds share counter space with a spread of vitamins and nonalcoholic beer.

(The best part is that the original title for the article: “Mickey Kaus Seeks to Correct the Flaws of Liberalism” is only avaiable if you search Kaus’s name on the site. Interesting to know that the subjects of articles now get to write their own headlines ).

    Plus: Candor!

“My readers already know what I think,” Mr. Kaus explains. “I think they’re sick to death of hearing it. This is a chance to reach a new audience.”

“I was at the point of diminishing returns.

    Yup.

What I find remarkable is Mickey’s ability to get a rise out of the hard left. He stated on his blog that his YouTube ad is a rip-off of the one that Wellstone did. Yet the hard left comments are apoplectic, accusing him of plagiarism and worse. Nice article about Mickey in today’s LA Times. He is predicting he will get less than 5% of the vote tomorrow but says his candidacy is worth it because it starts a dialog (plus he’s the first person anywhere to get on a ballot who describes his profession as “blogger”). I predict that he gets between 10 and 20% of the vote.

See also the effect of his self-aggrandizing martyr act on the output of an alleged journalist working for the New York Times (link).
Seems like a sure sign whenever a political figure is profiled in the Style Section that the piece will be a poorly sourced one-sided puffball, usually written about someone who couldn’t stand up to the scrutiny that would be required in a better story appearing in the News section.
