One thing that’s crucial to Trump’s success is that anything he does can be played off as some sort of schtick. It’s as if Andy Kaufman were president, if Kaufman had been a hardcore fascist.
So for example lots of people who should know better will treat this sort of tweet as “owning the libs,” as opposed to what Trump’s razor tells us, which is that, to quote Fran Lebowitz’s classic dictum, “You do not know anyone as stupid as Donald Trump. You just don’t.”
