Charles Hurt, I Can’t Quit You

I was going to let this go, as it’s been covered elsewhere and lots of the most salient points about how dumb and disingenous the author is have been made…but, I’m sorry, I cannot let  this go.

Firstly, I have no idea where he stands on the Boo Boo clan. I know he thinks they’re fat because he can barely type a sentence without putting the word “fat” in it.

And there’s this:

As with most government programs, the result is incestuously stupid, lazy and hopeless people who cannot roll themselves off the bed long enough to find a job and buy a better house that doesn’t rattle violently every time a train goes by.

 

Plus this:

Now, I am not suggesting that poor people like Honey Boo Boo do not exist in America. Certainly, they do. But that should not be celebrated or ridiculed by the elitist media. It should be pitied.

 

Now, Charles, I’m confused. If you think these people are exploited and pitiable, why are you calling them fat, lazy and incestuous? Also, the father is a miner, and the mother is a stay-at-home mother. I thought people who worked hard and did their part to preserve traditional gender roles were to be revered, not reviled. Or does that rule only apply to the Romneys and their ilk? This “column” is really just a crudely-constructed disguise for your contempt for fat, poor people, isn’t it?
