I’m working through the stupidity appendix for the book, which now that I’m actually doing it I’m more convinced than ever is a good idea (I can easily a lot of people just reading the appendix and skipping the book in the age of YouTube shorts and TL;DR generally).
What I’m doing is creating a sentence or a paragraph for each incident, then hyperlinking to a mainstream media source reporting on the incident. I don’t want to exaggerate the following, because I certainly don’t mean to imply that this task is even vaguely comparable to the kind of work/experiences that give people genuine long-lasting PTSD, but, that said . . . this is not a healthy mental exercise, although I’m not expecting you to thank me for my service or anything.
Seriously, it’s something else. There’s just so much, and the cumulative effect is so extreme . . . and note I’m trying very hard to stick to stupidity per se, while not referencing the malevolence and the corruption and the cruelty and the ignorance and so on, even though inevitably there’s a lot of overlap in the Venn diagrams. And I keep finding new things, despite all of your herculean efforts to aid in this project (I will be contacting everyone to ask if you want to be referred to by your name or your nym in the acknowledgements, assuming this book exists in less ethereal form eventually).
I’m organizing the thing topically. Here’s a section (imagine reading 200 of these):
