I remember reading somewhere or the other that a big problem at Stalin’s speeches was that nobody wanted to be the first man to stop clapping, so the ovations would go on and on.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who served as President Donald Trump’s defense attorney during his New York City criminal trial in 2024, said he would thank the president and tell him, “I love you, sir,” if Trump fired him or chose another person to serve as Pam Bondi’s permanent replacement for attorney general.
Blanche served as the Justice Department’s deputy attorney general until the president fired Bondi last week amid scrutiny of her handling of the Epstein files and prosecutions of Trump’s political foes.
The president has yet to nominate a permanent replacement, who will need to be confirmed by the Senate. Trump is reportedly considering Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lee Zeldin and Utah Sen. Mike Lee, among others, as he has shaken up his Cabinet in recent weeks.
“As to whether or not I want this job, I did not ask for this job. I love working for President Trump, it’s the greatest honor of a lifetime,” Blanche said at an unrelated press conference on Tuesday, April 7.
“And if President Trump chooses to keep me as acting [attorney general], that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate me, that’s an honor,” he continued. “If he chooses to nominate somebody else and I go back to being the [deputy attorney general], that’s an honor.”
Blanche added, “If he chooses to nominate somebody else and asks me to go do something else, I will say ‘Thank you very much. I love you, sir.’ I don’t have any goals or aspirations beyond that.”
